Stopping Stigmas

In Goffman’s work we learn a lot about stigmas. “Stigma is a process by which the reaction of others spoils normal identity.” Stigmas can be really seen as “a special kind of relationship between attribute and stereotype.” After reading Goffman’s work, I wanted to see if there were things going on currently to work on stopping stereotyping and stigmatization. I found that one of the most common stigmas today had to do with mental health illness. I also found some videos that were made to help stop stigmas about mental health illness. I think it is important to be aware of the stigmas present today so we can help to stop using them. (Attached is one of the videos I found to be very powerful about stopping the stigma of mental health illnesses.)
